ROSE - PAM TO ROSE
If there is anyone in the remake of The Big Caper 1957 film that is going to have a conflict persona, that would be Pam’s character Rose. According to the script Danny supposed to be one of the main conflict. Within his own state of anxiety. Camera coverage and Story reveals more of his situation changes than his persona. For something morally in the name of Justice league. They both fight for the same woman. And that woman partially the cause of this brothers collapse to eachother. Pam’s Rose is in the persona salvation army wants to break free. She wants her existent freedom. She wants a ordinary human life.
On the other hand Danny was in the cash/cream side of salvation. His luck drive him to Slade’s loft party (SKYFALL2020). On the other hand, Rose has always been there. She was Slades tool in a way. She was sad to begin with. Party scene reveals her femme fatale side. She is a tiger with luxury wants to escape. Her rich beauty is like giant billboard sign.
This still I took illustrates her beauty and charm. It could even be a album cover. It can make the viewer guess, as if she is the one who is dying at the end or furthermore pretentious; As if it is a metaphor on her sleeping beauty.
It was unexpected. I was reviewing the shots on the monitor then seeing how glamorous she looks on the losh red colour. Still frame of Rose on red reminds me my favorite Joni Mitchell album. Blue. Her face in close-up with a one colour tone, popping out her bone structure. They are twins. Her intense glowing face resemblance Ingmar Bergman’s Persona album cover. The red font on Bibi Anderson and Liv Ullmann. I also like the eroding disaturated or pixelated look on the still. But the colour on her face puts a heavy mood.
This duality or conflict on Rose’s character is not just coming from this picture. Throughout the film, I had two essential private intense moment with Pam’s character Rose. And perhaps this is the one and only inputs about the characteristics thing I got it through some of the writers and directors in The Big Caper. Those two private sequences I shot with her, she was crying and looking at her self front of a mirror. This is the only two shots/sequences that shows Pam alone in the film. One of them is a last minute decision.
In my opinion it is essential. This particular shots provides a heavy emotional impact. One of them is the Riordan’s wash-room after she gets raped by Slade. The other one is the curling club. Which seems more hopeless. It is indeed a rare private moment alone with an actor in the film. There are no verbal words. Everything is expressed by her facial impression. No need for words. We needed moments like these where we go underneath the skin of the character. And Pam was in tune with her character the entire time. We did clarify her emotions with no words. She is feeble inside and she is strong outside. And towards the end she is eroding. Her second look on a mirror somehow looks more miserable and distant. She did a very good job. She can cry naturally with no index. All I told her was the description of what we need and she melted like butter on a pancake.
